The blue carriers have a characteristic side hook and an opening for a retaining pin. The ceramic compound is on the rectangular friction area; the pair is completed by a separator spring and a split pin.

Compare the outline, side hook position, and safety pin opening with the removed pads. The spring must sit correctly between the pads and push them away from the disc.

For the corresponding Xtech caliper with the same pad outline. Check the actual installed brake, even on a modified vehicle.

Brake lining

The ceramic compound forms the friction surface of the pads. To ensure even contact with the disc, bed in the new pair gradually after installation. Keep the lining clean and dry; oil or grease on the friction surface reduces braking performance.

When to replace and how to start

• Inspect the pads if you notice poor braking, uneven wear, or contamination. Replace both pads in the same caliper; check the minimum allowed thickness in the brake manual.
• Remove the retaining pin and the old pair. Following the procedure for your specific caliper, prepare space for the new pads, then insert the spring, the new pair, and the pin. Do not grease the friction surfaces.
• Check for free wheel rotation and lever operation. Bed in the new pads with several gradual decelerations in a safe area without locking the wheel.
