Two black brackets with side tabs and a rectangular friction surface make up a pair of semi-metallic pads. The friction area measures approximately 30 × 17 mm; a spring and locking pin are included.

The 30 × 17 mm figure refers to the friction surface, not the overall outline. Before replacing, check the installed caliper and the position of the mounting tabs, especially on vehicles with upgraded brakes.

Brake pad lining

The semi-metallic lining combines metal particles and a resin binder. The compound represents a compromise between initial bite and resistance to thermal stress. For consistent braking, a clean disc and gradual bedding-in of the new pair are important.

When to replace and how to start

• Inspect the pads in case of poor braking, uneven wear, or contamination. Replace both pads in the same caliper; check the minimum allowed thickness in the brake manual.
• Remove the locking pin and the old pair. Prepare the space for the new pads according to the procedure for your caliper, then insert the spring, the new pair, and the locking pin. Do not grease the friction surfaces.
• Check for free wheel rotation and brake lever operation. Bed in the new pads with several gradual decelerations in a safe place, without locking the wheel.
