Brake pad compound

The semi-metallic compound combines metal particles and a resin binder. The mixture represents a compromise between initial grip and resistance to thermal load. A clean disc and gradual bedding-in of the new pair are important for even braking.

When to replace and how to start

• Inspect the pads if there is poor braking, uneven wear, or contamination. Replace both pads in the same caliper; check the minimum allowable thickness in the brake manual.
• Remove the retaining pin and old pair. Following the procedure for your caliper, prepare space for the new pads, then insert the spring, the new pair, and the retaining pin. Do not grease the friction surfaces.
• Check for free wheel rotation and lever operation. Bed in the new pads with several gradual stops in a safe area, without locking the wheel.
