Brake pad material

Semi-metallic compound combines metal particles with resin binders. This blend is a compromise between initial bite and thermal resistance. A clean disc and gradual bedding-in of the new pair are important for consistent braking.

When to replace and how to start

• Inspect the pads if you notice reduced braking performance, uneven wear, or contamination. Replace both pads in the same caliper; check the minimum allowable thickness in the brake manual.
• Remove the safety pin and the old pair. Following the procedure for your specific caliper, prepare space for the new pads, then insert the spring, the new pair, and the safety pin. Do not grease the friction surfaces.
• Check for free wheel rotation and lever feel. Bed in the new pads with several gradual decelerations in a safe location, without locking the wheel.
