Black carriers with side lugs and a rectangular friction surface make up a pair of semi-metal pads. The friction area measures approximately 30 × 17 mm; a spring and a cotter pin are included.

The 30 × 17 mm measurement refers to the friction surface, not the entire outline. Before replacing, check the installed caliper and the position of the mounting lugs, especially on vehicles with upgraded brakes.

Brake pad

The semi-metal lining combines metal particles and resin binder. The mixture is a compromise between initial grip and resistance to thermal load. For uniform braking, a clean disc and gradual bedding in of the new pair are important.

When to replace and how to start

• Inspect the pads in case of reduced braking performance, uneven wear, or contamination. Replace both pads in the same caliper; check the minimum allowed thickness in the brake manual.
• Remove the retaining clip and the old pair. Prepare space for the new pads according to the procedure for your specific caliper, then insert the spring, the new pair, and the retaining clip. Do not grease the friction surfaces.
• Check for free wheel rotation and brake lever function. Bed in the new pads with several gradual decelerations in a safe location, without locking the wheel.
