The wide green backings have a rectangular friction material and a top tab for a retainer. The pair of ceramic pads is completed by a spreader spring and a split pin.

Before replacing, compare the pad width and height, the mounting tab, and the position of the retainer. Install the ceramic pair with the appropriate spreader spring and bed them in after adjusting the brake.

Brake pad material

Ceramic compound forms the friction surface of the pads. For even contact with the disc, bed in the new pair gradually after installation. Keep the pads clean and dry; oil or grease on the friction surface reduces braking performance.

When to replace and how to start

• Inspect the pads when braking performance drops, wear is uneven, or they are contaminated. Replace both pads in the same caliper; check the manual for the minimum allowed thickness.
• Remove the retainer and the old pair. After following the procedure for your specific caliper, prepare space for the new pads, then insert the spring, the new pair, and the retainer. Do not grease the friction surfaces.
• Check for free wheel rotation and lever operation. Bed in the new pads with several gradual slows in a safe location, without locking the wheel.
