Brake pad compound

The semi-metallic compound combines metal particles and resin binder. The mixture represents a compromise between initial bite and resistance to thermal stress. For consistent braking, a clean disc and gradual bedding-in of the new pair are important.

When to replace and how to start

• Inspect the pads in case of reduced braking performance, uneven wear, or contamination. Replace both pads in the same caliper; check the minimum allowed thickness in the brake manual.
• Remove the retaining clip and the old pair. Prepare the space for new pads according to the procedure for your caliper, then insert the spring, the new pair, and the retaining clip. Do not grease the friction surfaces.
• Check for free wheel rotation and lever operation. Bed in the new pads with several gradual decelerations in a safe location without locking the wheel.
