Also compare the bottom notch and tab position. This shape is not identical to fully round pads without an extension; after replacement, the spring must correctly separate both pads from the disc.

Brake pad material

Sintered metal pads generally handle heat and wear well in wet conditions. Compared to organic pads, they may be louder and cause more wear to the disc. Use a disc that allows metal pads.

When to replace and how to start

• Inspect the pads if you notice reduced braking performance, uneven wear, or contamination. Always replace both pads in the same caliper; check your brake manual for the minimum allowed thickness.
• Following the mechanical caliper instructions, remove the old pair and loosen the setting for the new pads. Install both pads and the tension spring, then adjust the spacing for the disc. Do not grease the friction surfaces.
• Check for free wheel rotation and lever operation. Bed in the new pads with several gradual decelerations in a safe location, without locking the wheel.
